The article presents the constructivist approach in security studies. It is shown in comparison
with other postpositive approaches. There are recognized some differences in relation to the positivist
theory. The author presents constructivism from the perspective of the sociology of knowledge, as
a discursive approach as opposed to the subjective and objective approaches in security studies. Characteristics of constructivism is carried out with reference to the context of the transformation of the
modern world. Features constructivist approaches in particular are presented in terms of the theory
of securitization. The author shows the complexity of this theoretical mainstream giving a variety of
approaches within constructivism. He shows their complementarily and usefulness of multiparadigm
approaches. The author attempts to discuss the theoretical aspects of this issue in the context of their
suitability rules
