Intention of the article is a presentation of the political aspects of NATO activities in the zeld of collective defense plans. xe Alliance’s aim is to increase the intensity of the ongoing military exercises within the eastern wank of the Pact, and the expansion of NATO’s infrastructure and deployment of equipment bases in the Eastern Europe. xe component that was developed in order to link the logistics and organizational operations within the framework of this institution is the NATO Response Force, and stemming out of it, the immediate reaction Forces (Very High Readiness Joint Task Force, VJTF) o™en called by the columnists and politicians “the NATO’s pike”. xe “pike” is the element of NATO Force Integration Units – NFIU. xose units have a task of coordinating the cooperation of the armed forces’ particular NFIU national units with other troops from NATO’s “pike”. xis implies training and maneuvers with other national units, coordination of the heavy equipment transport and exchange of the intelligence. According to author of the article, a threat to this concept of conventional deterrence is the diversity of interests of individual countries. Some of the NATO Member States do not feel directly threatened by Russia. xerefore it is necessary to develop the strategic vision of cooperation based on the long term interests.
