The purpose of this article is to identify the actions taken by the armed forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in Kazakhstan and their consequences for the security of the state. The author in the process of elaboration of the article used the method of critical analysis of literature. During the research process it was found that the military intervention of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in Kazakhstan was caused by the inability of the state institutions to restore public order, the breakdown of which occurred as a result of nationwide protests and riots. The CSTO conducted a military intervention, the main purpose of which was to protect key infrastructure and support the armed forces and police of Kazakhstan in the process of restoring public order. The intervention of the CSTO armed forces enabled the state authorities to regain control over the public security situation. The article presents the direct effects of the CSTO intervention on state security, as well as a forecast of the implications of the CSTO operation for Kazakhstan's security in the longer term. It is believed that the methods of operation used by the armed forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization during the intervention in Kazakhstan may provide a model for expeditionary engagement of the armed forces of the Russian Federation in the future. The theory and practice of state activity in the international arena and the Kremlin's desire to revise the post-Cold War order suggest that short-term interventions in the immediate strategic perimeter of the Russian Federation may become part of the canon of the use of military force by the Russian Federation's authorities. It can be assumed that the NATO should analyze the CSTO intervention in Kazakhstan precisely in the context of a possible future engagement of the armed forces of the Russian Federation in the Baltic States or the former Republics of the Soviet Union. This will allow taking preventive measures against a possible escalation of violence by the armed forces of the Russian Federation in the future, both on the territory of the former republics of the USSR and in the Baltic States.
