The article is descriptive of the migration policies of Australia and Belgium. It analyzes and evaluates the institutional and legal instruments applied to these policies, including such methods as combating illegal immigration, return migration policy, integration policy, adaptation courses, anti-discrimination policy, political participation, civic tests, access to labor markets, recruitment of highly qualified employees, point system. By the exemplification of important issues for the typical immigration countries, as those described, one of which is, and the other is not a member of the European Union, author shows how applying certain mechanisms of migration policy may affect the security of the state. In relation to illegal immigration, the measures limiting the size of the incoming stream of foreigners were also analyzed, and a social assessment of migration phenomenon, including the statements of representatives of state institutions, were also presented.
