According to social constructivists, national identity is a crucial factor that shapes a foreign
policy. Despite the fact that it contains certain permanent elements, it changes constantly. Mass media
can be responsible for directing those changes through creating the image desired by the political
power. xis is the case of the “Vesti Niedieli” − a weekly news program presented by Dmitry Kiselyov
− which is an example of media totalitarianism. Kiselyov adapts reasoning aimed at society and refers
to the characteristics that determine national identity. With reference to the above, the objective of this
article is to distinguish characteristic Russian features and perform analysis of methods using these
features by the media.
