SECURITY IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF CRITICAL STUDIES

ABSTRACT
The aim of the article is to explain the essence of critical security studies, to define their specificity, as well as to verify the cognitive usefulness of this paradigm. References were made to the achievements of the most important representatives of the theoretical trend under study, as well as to comments on this in Polish scientific publications. Since the research issue concerns the theory of security, general theoretical methods, such as analysis, definition, comparison, synthesis and inference, were used in the work on the article. There are explained the most important features of critical security studies, which are considered a non-traditional form of research approach, and a strong practical and normative attitude. There were referred to post-positivist tendencies in scientific development. A broad and narrow understanding of critical theories in science was indicated. The features of critical security studies were analyzed in detail, with separate reference to the issues of securitization and emancipation in this context. Their impact on the appreciation of the perception of security from the human perspective was explained, which was used, among others, in in the concept of human security. There were presented the achievements of the most important representatives and theoretical schools from a critical perspective in the field of security studies. The summary summarizes the most important allegations made against critical security studies and tries to demonstrate the advantages of this paradigm. There were formulated postulates related to the requirements of critical thinking in science.
