The authors of the work are trying to show solutions in individual NATO armies used to shape leadership competences among candidates for officers. All military academies in NATO countries follow very similar procedures in the field of combat training of future officers, however, they use different ap-proaches to shape them as leaders. The leadership competences of commanders have always played an important role in ensuring the survival of the army and nations. The number of events in the history of Poland and other countries that prove the rank of leadership competences as a determinant of victory is numerous. Therefore, the armed forces undertake various activities in order to teach and improve them among their commanding cadres.
