After 1989, regardless of the form of writing the national security strategy of the Republic of Poland (as "doctrine", "assumptions of the security policy" or the proper "strategy"), its conceptual, methodological and legal frameworks were formed, defining the scope of competences of state institutions, constitutionally responsible for creating and implementation of the state security policy. Traditionally, security is perceived and defined in the context of challenges and threats for a given entity. The nineties of the twentieth century were a period of radical political and political changes in Poland. Security and defense also experienced revolutionary transformations. The new security environment covers three separate periods: belonging to the Warsaw Pact, the gray zone of security - defense independence and the period of membership in NATO.
